About Rafieka Davis
Rafieka Davis is a dynamic South African filmmaker and founder of Swirlkous Films, a production company dedicated to telling nuanced, culturally rich stories from underrepresented voices. With a background in theatre—where she co-wrote her school’s first original musical, Voices—and formal training in Digital Filmmaking from Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking in Cape Town, Rafieka brings both artistic depth and technical expertise to her projects.
Her acclaimed short film Sela has garnered multiple international awards, including Best Community Short Film at the Knysna Film Festival and Best Actor at the Lake International Pan African Film Festival. In 2024, Rafieka was selected for the prestigious Durban FilmMart Access Programme, where she pitched The Pathfinder, a feature project exploring themes of youth, identity, and cultural heritage through the vibrant world of marching bands.
As a female founder and creative leader, Rafieka is passionate about empowering the next generation of women filmmakers and entrepreneurs across Africa and beyond. She is committed to fostering authentic storytelling that bridges local narratives with global audiences, making Swirlkous Films a vital voice in contemporary world cinema.
